Maserati Levante Trofeo 2020 Review

Like other new cars launched this year, some highs and lows about the Trofeo are summarized in the Maserati Levante Trofeo 2020 review and specifications. The new SUV offers seductive exterior styling and quick acceleration times. Compared to its rivals, however, the new SUB might look less polished, but Maserati Levant offers an intoxicating mix of style and substance. The Trofeo is the top-of-the-line version of SUV from Maserati.

Maserati Levante Trofeo 2020 Review and Specifications on the Overall Performance

The most important thing to consider when choosing a car is its performance. Of course other things such as the exterior, cabin, infotainment features, safety packages, and warranty coverage are also important. However, all of them mean nothing if the performance is poor. Car performance deals mainly with the engine, powertrain, and suspension.

Maserati Levante Trofeo 2020 Review

Let’s start with the powertrain which is the best part of this stylish SUV. What makes it special is that it uses a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 sourced from Ferrari. The engine is an absolute firecracker even though there is a little diminutive displacement. The engine practically punches far above its weight class, producing an amazing 590 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque.

The overall performance is enhanced by a smooth and highly responsive 8-speed automatic transmission. As for fuel consumption, the vehicle is rated at 15, meaning it is quite fuel-efficient. Not only is the engine potent, it is silky smooth and mellifluous. Even, there is no harshness and vibration. Furthermore, the steering has a bit of heft although it is not quick or crisp.

However, there are some issues regarding the brakes. The pedal is too soft underfoot thus it becomes difficult to modulate smoothly. The car has a starchy ride quality yet not so brutally. This SUV GT is perfect for hitting winding roads too but, the hefty weight can affect the handling. Even in the sportiest setting, the car keep struggling to stay upright in turns.

It is true that the Levante Trofeo 2020 is quite soft during hard cornering but the ride is not particularly good. Most of the time it feels a bit firm. It is not so surprising that the car is rated two out of five when it comes to performance and drive. The V8 engine is so far the best thing about the Levante but it does not guarantee an excellent ride.

The Interior of Maserati Levante Trofeo 2020

There is no doubt that the Levante looks classy from the outside, but there are more things to be desired inside. The Trofeo model features acres of exquisite leather throughout the interior, accented by bright red stitching. Meanwhile the roof pillars and headliners are wrapped in lovely Alcantara fabric. Designed ergonomically, the front seat is decently comfy and firm enough. What about the backseat? It provides lots of space for passengers with long legs.

Throughout the interior, you will see 3D carbon-fiber trim that looks so cool. It is really one-of-a-kind as not many cars uses this textured material. Usually they incorporates a glass-like finish that has been quite common.

Okay, so far there is nothing wrong with interior. It seems like everything is perfectly fine, but take a little closer and you will find some drawbacks. The interior is full of mass-market Fiat-Chrysler controls. These components, do not speak for a Maserati. They belong to a Chrysler Pacifica. What’s worse, there are wobbly trim and inflexible climate controls that somehow cheapen the look.

While some parts of the interior are regrettable, there are other things that need to be appreciated. One of them is the infotainment department. There is a responsive 8.4-inch touchscreen that is easy to operate. The most advanced feature is the Maserati Touch Control Plus that supports integrated navigation system such Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The rest of the features deal with safety. The Levante offers numerous safety features such as adaptive cruise control, Highway Assist, Highway Assist, and many more. These features sound common and they are mostly found in the current SUV models but they are indeed very useful especially the Highway Assist.

This Highway Assist is a very important safety feature. It increases safety while ensuring a more relaxed drawing. It helps prevent any safety-critical driving situation on highways. For your information, automated driving has been proven to be able to reduce the number of accidents drastically and therefore increase road safety significantly. That is why having some safety features is a must in every car.

Even though the connectivity and comfort techs seem to be complete, it misses out some of the bits expected in luxury cars such as hands-free parking assistant, heads-up display, and ventilated seats.

Pricing Information

The Italian carmaker markets the Levante as an extremely powerful SUV that is intended to optimize your excitement on any terrain. Maserati also claims that the Levante Trofeo offers the maximum delight for performance purists. It include lower air suspension ride height and faster throttle response.

Maserati Levante Trofeo 2020 Review

The entry level Levante Trofeo starts at about $80,000, making it pretty overpriced. Even the higher Trofeo model is almost twice as expensive, reaching $152,685. Of course it is in line with what you get; solid dynamics, a fine-looking exterior, and more importantly a delightful Ferrari engine. However, out there, they are many other SUVs which are less expensive yet more enjoyable to drive. Think about BMW X5 M, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, or other rivals feel far nicer.

Unless you are dead set on having a Maserati and willing to spend that much money for the Levante, it is better to consider other high-performance SUVs with similar tech and switchgear yet more enjoyable to drive.

The performance is quite good, thanks to the sublime Ferrari-sourced engine. However, the driving dynamics are just so-so. Other things that many people don’t like are the mediocre interior yet it is way overpriced.
