Renault Megane RS 2020

Do you still remember the predecessor of this Renault Megane RS? Yes, it was definitely one of the best hatches ever. Therefore, many people put much expectation on the 2020 model. They expect that at least the car can be as successful as the predecessor. Of course, it must have been a difficult task performed by the French carmaker. Moreover, the Megane RS also needs to face off lots of extremely talented rivals such as the Volkswagen Golf R and the Hyundai i30N. Here are the Renault Megane RS 2020 review and specifications you need to know.

Renault Megane RS 2020 review and specifications on the engines

Renault has tried hard to improve the agility of the successor by including four-wheel steering as well as the sort of sophisticated suspension as used by a rally car. Meanwhile the car is powered up by  a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine. It is the same engine used in the Alpine A10 sports car. There are two suspensions offered; Sport and Cup. Which one to buy among the two?

If you are looking for a more well-round car that suitable for every day basis, pick the Sport. However, if you are more into a hardcore, track-focused arrangement, look no other than the Cup. Meanwhile there are two choices of gearboxes; manual and paddelshift. The best thing is that the manual gearbox has a manual handbrake with an automated electric parking brake switch.  The manual gearbox is still the same as used in the previous model but it has shorter throw and tighter gate.

With the standard suspension, the car is reliable enough to bump any road surfaces quite well although it is not as forgiving as the Civic. Furthermore, the four-wheel steering system that’s fitted is no gimmick, as not only does it give the Megane RS an extremely tight turning circle, but also helps improve agility on bumpy roads. You really do feel like the car is spinning around you, predominantly in the sort of tight hairpins that FWD cars typically struggle with. However, keep in mind that it’s a sensation you will either enjoy or hate and some people find it disturbing.

The 6-speed dual-clutch automatic is suitable for to the RS. By holding the right paddle back during Sport or Race mode, it reacts immediately. The only criticisms is that the paddle is sometimes a little soppy and unsatisfying.

Some car enthusiasts will opt for the manual transmission but it is the not the ideal choice for a town driving. At low speed, the clutch feel rather hefty. On the other hand, the wright is perfect for robust, lightning-fast gearshifts. Possibly, it’s this great set-up that best demonstrates the motorsport breeding of the Megane RS. Although there are not many ways to customize your RS, you can choose between the 300hp model with the updated Trophy chassis and standard 280hp version in Cup trim. The RS Trophy is more desirable because it light-weight.

The Interior Layout

The previous Megane RS had two doors while the latest hatch features five door. Compared to the standard Megane, the RS is obviously wider and lower. If you are a hatchback lover, this high-end performance version is worth considering. The brand new sporty interior really demonstrate the characteristic of the Megane.

Moving inside, you will find a little dull interior with and carbon fiber effect leather trim on the doors. The best thing is probably the steering wheel as it is covered with a mix of Alcantara and leather. The seats are also trimmed in suede. Overall, it looks good. More importantly, the car has a comfortable ride when on long distance and comfortable. There is no need to worry about your back will get painful. It won’t happen because the seats are all ergonomically made.

For a performance car, the footrest is incredibly large. Meanwhile, there are plenty places to store stuff and belongings. Due to the ample storage space, the Megane RS is ideal for long journey travelling. Both the drivers and passengers will be able to enjoy the drive. Some handy storage spaces are also available in the front of the car. There are door bins for drink bottles and cup holders in the middle console.

Loaded with numerous individual touches, you will be always reminded that you’re driving more than just a family car. Along the way, you will surely enjoy the cabin as everything’s there. The flair-filled interior combined with stylish dashboard makes the hatchback feels like a premium car. Some people may find the interior patchy but it is a matter of preference.

The large 8.7 inch central infotainment screen looks so great. Unfortunately, it is a bit complicated to operate. In other words, it is not a kind user-friendly feature. The menus are a bit confusing. Moreover, some of the plastics used are rather insubstantial. Meanwhile, the Trophy-R uses a smaller seven-inch screen to make it more lightweight.

Should you buy the Megane RS 2020?

Just like its predecessor, the Megane RS 2020 is really a worth-buying. It is also not as expensive as the Volkswagen Golf R or Honda Civic Type R. In other words, the price is relatively affordable. The standard equipment is pretty complete. It includes everything from LED headlight to climate control. It is even better to add metallic paint. Don’t forget to add the safety pack premium along with automatic emergency braking for extra safety features.

Purchasing a new Renault car including the Megane RS, you will get a five-year warranty without any mileage limit and this warranty applies for the first two years. Additionally, this French automaker provides three years of roadside assistance cover.
