Honda HRV 2021 Review

First debuted in 2016, Honda HRV becomes a favorite among those seeking a small SUV with a large cabin and a lot of ride comfort. This car is also considered as the least expensive crossover, making it a perfect car for anyone looking for an affordable yet reliable vehicle. Even though Honda HRV has faced newer rivals such as Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona, and the reborn Chevrolet Trailblazers, these competitors still cannot match the spacious cargo and innovative interior flexibility that Honda HRV has. The latest Honda HRV 2021 comes with turbo engine and here is the review.

Honda HRV 2021 with Turbo Engine Review of the New Updates: What’s New

This recommendable entry-level SUV offers its value proposition in this burgeoning segment. However, the new Honda HRV or the 2021 model year comes with only minor updates. It means there are not any significant changes to expect. The major innovations can be seen from the wheel designs of the trims. The most noticeable update is on the sport trim that has rear privacy glass, making the overall look more elegant.

Let’s start with the engine as it holds all the power that leads the car to function properly. The 2021 Honda HRV comes with a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine. The car also comes with a variable automatic transmission (CVT) as in the previous models. It is supported with front-and all-wheel drive.

With the FWD, fuel economy is improved although it is not the best in its class. Meanwhile, the AWD also supports a better gas mileage. Still, other rivals such as the Mazda CX-30 and Kia Seltos 2020 achieve more than 33 mpg. Like Honda HRV, those two competitors also are also equipped with turbo engines that are more powerful.

Standard Features and Options

Talking about the trims is probably the most interesting part for most car enthusiasts. There are five trims available for Honda HRV 2021; Touring, EX, EX-L, Sport, and LX. Let’s start with the LX. It costs about $21,000, making it the least expensive among the five options. If you want a car that still includes a CD player, the LX is the only options as the other trims don’t come with this feature.

The next trim is the HRV Sport that costs approximately $22,700. Compared to the LX, it has quicker steering. The car also looks classy with extra gloss-black exterior and a leather-covered steering wheel. Furthermore, the car is equipped with superb entertainment system that includes a 7-in touchscreen interface integrated to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay apps. USB ports and 6-speaker sound system are available, too.

The higher trim is the HRV EX that actually has the same wheels as the base LX trim. Meanwhile, the features are almost similar to the HRV Sport but with some updates on the headlights, heated mirrors, and fog lights. You can buy this trim for $24,200. For a higher luxury level, your option is the HRV EXL. It is a little bit higher than the EX but it is worth the money because there are some features that are absent in the EX trim such as leather upholstery, 180-watt audio system, and auto-diming rearview mirror.

Finally, the most advanced trim is the Touring. It costs nearly $30,000. The trim adds extra body-colored trim, LED fog lights and headlights, and universal garage remote that support navigation integration.

Safety Features

While there are not many changes seen in the most current model, the safety features is quite improved especially for the EX trim. However, for the other trims, there are just a number of usual modern features such as stability control, traction, and anti-lock brakes. The EX trim has a  bundle of new safety features like automatic emergency brake and lane-keeping assistance that are commonly found in higher models of its rivals. The best thing is that Honda adds Lane Watch blind-spot camera. It is very useful when driving in the middle of stand-still traffic. Many drivers say that this feature boosts their confidence in maneuvering over.

Although there is nothing special or new about the safety features, since most of them have been introduced before in the previous models, Honda HRV has earned 5-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Receiving such award from the organization, this car became one of the top safety picks.

What’s Behind the Wheels

Talking about what’s behind the wheels refers to the interior quality of the car. The interior is called as ‘Magic Seat’ as it has spacious cargo space and high level of versatility. In the segment, nothing comes close to it. Not only is the front-seat comfortable, the back seat room is quite comfy, too. However, a problem is found on the driver seat in which it doesn’t slide far back enough. If you expect a more ergonomic seat, consider choosing the pricier trim.

All in all, the interior quality is good and the design is very striking. It also has a pretty practical center console with touch-sensitive control. Even so, this feature is still not as good as the one found in Honda Accord, CRV or Insight.

From the review above, it can be summed up that Honda HRV 2021 has numerous interesting features. This compact SUV can be worth buying because it has a superior cargo space and generous passenger room, suitable for a long family trip. Besides, it offers impressive fuel economy which allows you to save money and increase energy sustainability. The best thing is that you can get this car in an affordable price.

As every coin always two sides, this car also has some drawbacks. The latest model is reported to have frustrating touch controls. Meanwhile, there is not much legroom for tall drivers, which is not a problem for most drivers who are less tall. So, is Honda HRV 2021 with turbo engine an ideal car for you? The answer is definitely ‘yes’ if what you want is secure handling, flexible interior, good resale value. However, if you need a car with a bit more power, you may need to consider other options.
